Upcoming job fairs to circle

Two events are coming up fast, and both are free. The KANSASWORKS Virtual Statewide Job Fair runs Thursday, June 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., so you can interview from home with employers across Kansas. Then on Friday, July 24, Wichita State University hosts a community summer job fair on the Fairmount campus from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring resumes to that one and plan to apply on the spot.

The big bet: Wichita's new chip industry

The headline story this week is Integra Technologies and its $1.8 billion semiconductor plant taking shape near Rock Road and K-254 in Bel Aire. The project points to nearly 2,000 jobs averaging around $51,000, and a big share are entry-level roles that start with training rather than a degree. It is a new career lane for a city that already knows advanced manufacturing.

Aviation: the Air Capital is still hiring

Wichita's signature industry keeps the openings coming. Spirit AeroSystems, now Boeing-owned, and Textron Aviation are both hiring across assembly, engineering, and skilled trades, and eligible new aviation workers in Kansas can tap a state tax credit worth up to $5,000 a year. If you have manufacturing or mechanical experience, this is a natural fit.

New business, new cafe jobs

On the hospitality side, homegrown Mokas Coffee & Eatery keeps expanding around Wichita, with growth on the west and north sides and a planned location near Central and Oliver. Every new cafe means baristas, kitchen staff, and shift leads to hire.

Where the steady jobs are

With around 19,000 open positions in the metro this June, healthcare and warehouse logistics are leading the way. Both fields hire steadily, train new workers, and offer clear paths to move up, from CNA toward nursing or warehouse associate toward supervisor.
